Camera Ready Skin: The Best Skincare Tool Guide
A good skincare routine can be taken to the next level with the help of some handy skincare tools, but it can be hard to pick the right one for your routine!
In this blog, we will share our best skincare tool recommendations to address the following skincare needs:
The best skincare tools for exfoliation and deep cleansing
The best skincare tools for anti-aging and toning the skin
The best skincare tools to soothe stressed-out skin
The best skincare tools massage the skin and increase product absorption
The Best Skincare Tools for Exfoliation & Deep Cleansing
We firmly believe some of the best tools are our hands and fingertips when it comes to applying skincare and makeup, but when it comes to cleansing and exfoliating, tools just do it better.
The Conture AeroCleanse Facial Cleansing Device constantly sells out for us because it offers a gentle yet effective cleanse by utilizing sonic & airflow technology to safely and effectively cleanse. The sonic vibrations remove dirt, excess oil, and makeup from pores, while airflow technology increases the suds of your favorite cleanser to more effectively carry away impurities. This prevents over-stripping your skin.
Exfoliation is also a key step to revealing healthy glowing skin, but the key is to be gentle. Over-exfoliation can disrupt the skin's barrier, so choose a tool that gently removes debris and dead skin. Our top picks are the Conture Kinetic Smooth Hair Remover & Skin Polisher and the Esker Beauty Body Plane. The Conture Kinetic Smooth Hair Remover & Skin Polisher can be used on the face and body to remove unwanted hair with its precision rotary blades and has an interchangeable polishing head that gently buffs to reveal a glowing complexion.
If you’re seeking the perfect tool to exfoliate your body, the Esker Beauty Body Plane smooths skin and removes dirt and residue without damaging or irritating the skin’s moisture barrier. It has a dull "blade" that glides over wet or oiled skin that gently sloughs away impurities and dead skin while also acting as a gua sha massage for your body. It's a great alternative to a body scrub, especially if you have sensitive skin!
After dampening your skin, apply your favorite oil and glide the body plane along your arms and legs in upward motions. You’ll notice the immediate exfoliation of debris and dead skin, resulting in visibly softer skin. To learn more about the body plane and how to use it, be sure to check out our blog dedicated to this unique tool!
The Best Skincare Tools for Anti-Aging and Toning
If your number one skincare goal is anti-aging, skin toning is a must. The Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System is a celebrity favorite for more youthful skin, as it has isometric compression and low-frequency vibrations to stimulate and tone skin. This technology replicates what was once only available at med-spas and skin clinics, but now, you can effectively fight dullness, puffiness, and signs of aging from the comfort of your own home. While it may sound silly, the basic idea behind this tool is that it provides a gentle suction to the surface of the skin before gently releasing it back to its natural position. This simple yet effective repetitive motion increases circulation, helps drain extra fluids, and smoothes the skin.
When it comes to toning the skin, celebrity makeup artists and estheticians often reach for FDA-approved NuFACE tools for effective toning and lifting of the face and body. These handy devices use microcurrents to tone the skin (just like toning your muscles when you go to the gym), and while the results are cumulative, some see immediate results - especially in the lip line and eyelid area! Be sure to check out all of the great NuFACE routines and NuFACE devices we offer including the NuFACE Trinity PRO.
The Best Skincare Tools to Soothe Stressed Out Skin & Increase Circulation
Facial rollers are one of the most well-recognized skincare tools today. An ancient beauty practice dating back thousands of years, facial rollers provide energetic healing while improving the complexion’s appearance.
The Esker Beauty Allover Roller extends beyond the tradition of facial rolling and is designed specifically for use all over the body. Measuring 7 inches across, the extra-large roller is textured with soft spikes to increase stimulation, break up fascia, and help better absorb any treatment oil or product. The Allover Roller aids in lymphatic drainage, which helps to detoxify, and provides tension relief throughout the entire body.
If you’re looking for a more traditional yet highly effective facial roller, the Jenny Patinkin Rose on Rose Face Roller utilizes rose quartz for its healing properties. Rose quartz is believed to emit energetic vibrations of love and beauty, which is said to improve self-esteem as well as feelings of self-worth, forgiveness, and compassion. Like other rollers, the Rose on Rose Face Roller aids with lymphatic drainage, reduces inflammation, boosts circulation, and temporarily firms the skin. If you want to start your day with added radiance and glow, the Rose on Rose Face Roller is our top choice.
If you want the facial roller effect but aren’t keen on rollers, we recommend the Jenny Patinkin Uplifting Gua Sha Heart. Apply an oil, serum, or moisturizer, and glide the tool over the skin for a relaxing spa experience that will leave you feeling fresher and more awake. Like facial rollers, the Gua Sha Heart will promote lymphatic drainage and improve the appearance of skin laxity. It also comes with its own matching carrying case for relaxation and healing on the go.
Finally, we can't help but gush about our love for the Milk + Honey Body Brush. Crafted from Chinese cherrywood and 100% boar bristles, it provides gentle exfoliation, promotes healthy circulation and detoxification, and helps to reveal smoother skin.
The Best Skincare Tools to Increase Skincare Product Absorption
If you're short on self-care time but still want an incredibly effective way to elevate your skincare routine, a device that incorporates cryo-therapy, micro-needling, or massaging may be the perfect tool for you. Cryo-therapy harnesses the benefits of lower temperatures (think of pro athletes taking an ice bath after a strenuous workout) to invigorate the skin and muscles. This cooling treatment can help reduce puffiness, lift and firm the skin, tighten pores, and even reduce the appearance of dark circles.
The Fraîcheur Paris Ice Globes are our personal favorite easy-to-use cryo-therapy tool. For those who aren’t familiar, facial cooling globes are spherical tools that can be placed in the freezer and then rolled over the face for a number of skincare benefits. In addition to the benefits listed above, they can also brighten the complexion, reduce acne scarring, and more. Want to feel extra refreshed in the morning or soothe tired skin and tense muscles at the end of a day? Incorporate a quick facial ice globe session into your routine, and try using it on top of your favorite sheet mask for a next-level facial.
The award-winning Jenny Patinkin Rose on Rose Derma Roller has won great praise from Health and Shape magazines because it's a fast, painless, and low-tech tool that helps your skincare products sink more deeply into your skin. The tool uses microneedles to create tiny channels into the deeper layers of your skin, allowing the ingredients to sink in more effectively. While it may be tempting, we only recommend using this tool one to two times per week.
Finally, if you're like many others and suffer from facial muscle tension or a dull complexion in general, you'll love The Gold Sculpting Bar. Created by celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, this vibrating facial tool helps sculpt the face by increasing circulation and can help ease tension in the jaw, forehead, around the lips, and more. For the ultimate facial, use it while wearing your favorite sheet mask or under eye patches!

Self Care Week: Pro-Approved Skincare Tools
From texture to loss of elasticity and everything in between, it seems like there's a long list of skincare concerns many of us deal with on a regular basis. However, thanks to some high-tech devices and basic skincare tools, caring for our skin and enjoying a spa-like moment at home has never been easier.
In this blog, we're sharing our top skincare tool picks to treat different skincare concerns and explaining the benefits of each!
Remove dirt, debris, and dead skin cells with the Esker Beauty Body Plane (left) or the Milk + Honey Body Brush (right). Both provide additional benefits like aiding in boosting circulation and aiding in lymphatic draining.
Skincare Tools for Exfoliation
Pesky dry patches, keratosis pilaris, and general skin dullness impact more than half of Americans, so it's no surprise beauty brands have taken notice and have created safe and effective skincare tools to help. The Esker Beauty Body Plane is a hand-held device that takes inspiration from the ancient Greek strigil, a tool that uses a dulled blade to scrape away debris, dirt, and dead skin cells. You can click here to learn more about that in our blog about how to use the Body Plane, but to summarize this updated version of the strigil, it can help reduce KP bumps and gently sweep away impurities when used correctly. For best results, pair with one of Esker's body oils.
Another option is to treat yourself to a body brushing session once a week. Unlike the Body Plane, a body brush is best used before showering. The Milk + Honey Body Brush is crafted from Chinese cherrywood and boar bristles to gently and thoroughly exfoliate the skin, promote healthy circulation and detoxification, and to reveal smooth, happy skin. Regardless of the method you choose, work in long, slow sweeping motions starting at your extremities and move toward your heart to aid in lymphatic draining and to improve circulation. Avoid over-exfoliating, as this can have the opposite effect and cause additional skin irritation.
Give your body the royal treatment and target stubborn dimples with the NuBODY, and target fine lines with the Trinity with the ELE Attachment.
Skincare Tools for Anti-Aging
High-quality facial care has come a long way, and you can achieve professional results at home! NuFACE offers FDA-approved microcurrent devices that are the leading choice for estheticians and makeup artists wanting to give their clients an uplifting treatment. The NuFACE FIX line smoothing device paired with the NuFACE FIX serum provides a quick fix skin-plumping session with microcurrent technology! You can see instant results in just 3 minutes, and there's a whole range of techniques to smooth lines around the lips and eyes. We made it easy to pick which one is best for you — simply read our article here. For a longer microcurrent session with long-term results, the NuFACE Trinity device can sculpt, depuff, tone muscles, and more. Just think of it as a workout for your face! Pair the Trinity with the Effective Lip & Eye attachment to treat extra delicate skin, or attach the Wrinkle Reducer Red Light Therapy attachment to target fine lines.
If you want the same results microcurrent can offer for your body, the NuFACE NuBODY Toning and Firming Kit is our top pick for you. This larger device utilizes microcurrent to smooth dimples and to tone the skin. This is the first FDA-approved product of its kind and is designed with four treatment spheres that focus on targeting the microcurrent to specific parts of the body to help smooth away the appearance of uneven or dimpled skin.
End your skincare self care routine with a soothing facial that improves circulation, depuffs, and reinvigorates your skin. The Fraicheur Paris Facial Ice Globes are used by estheticians worldwide, and MUA Jillian Dempsey created the Gold Sculptin Bar to give her clients the red carpet treatment in just a few minutes!
Skincare Tools for Soothing Stressed Skin
Now that you've learned more about our favorite skincare tools to exfoliate and for anti-aging, it's time to talk about tools that can soothe the skin. The Fraicheur Paris Facial Ice Globes are among our best-selling skincare tools and offer an oversized sphere that allows you to cover a larger surface area in a shorter time frame. They utilize cryotherapy to temporarily decrease the size of blood vessels in the skin, so they're great to help hide dark circles under the eyes while soothing facial muscles. Simply pop the globes into the fridge for at least an hour to get them nice and cold, and enjoy! To read step-by-step instructions on how to perform a few Facial Ice Globe facials, click here.
For a quicker treatment that's not quite as cold, the FITISH Ice Globes are cooled in the fridge (versus the freezer), so those that are sensitive to the colder temps may prefer these globes for their cryotherapy session.
If you have tense facial muscles and a bit of puffiness you're trying to treat, the Jillian Dempsey Gold Sculpting Bar is the perfect device. Ideal for men and women, the 24k gold plated Gold Bar’s vibrations mimic the effects of a massage, instantly relaxing facial muscles to release tension. Makeup Artist Jillian Dempsey created this device to give her models a professional-level facial in just a few minutes before makeup application.

1. Esker Beauty Body Plane
The Esker Beauty Body Plane is inspired by the rituals of ancient Greek and Roman bathhouses. Strigils were metal scraping tools used for oil cleansing from head to toe. The stainless steel blunt edge is plated with colloidal sterling silver which is naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, leaving skin soothed and smoothed. This tool gently and thoroughly exfoliates the skin without damaging or irritating its moisture barrier. It helps smooth skin and alleviate roughness and patchiness including ingrown hairs and keratosis pilaris.
Honorable Mention Indie Lee Coconut Citrus Scrub
The scent of this clean-beauty scrub is almost good enough to eat thanks to natural ingredients including lemongrass, lemon balm, and vanilla. It also contains raw cane sugar, coconut oil, and jojoba oil for a moisture boost with gentle exfoliation.

Ilios Lighting was created to solve the mirror and lighting needs of makeup artists, photographers, and content creators in one innovative ring light. Mario Dedivanovic explains it best. "Lighting is such a critical part of everything I do, from makeup application to content creation," said Mario. "I not only see a need for this product, but a need for a company that truly embraces our industry and understands it. The Ilios Beauty Ring is the closest thing I’ve experienced to natural sunlight. The quality is just perfect.”
MYKITCO was created by makeup artist James Molloy and partner Alex. They took the utmost care to hand-make their original designs from scratch. James then tried and tested each and every bag and brush until they were perfect. With ultimate confidence in the quality they were offering, MYKITCO quickly became an industry favorite, responsible for some major kit upgrades all over the world.
AVENE has over 275 years of expertise in caring for sensitive skin and is recommended by dermatologists worldwide. At the heart of every formula, is clinically proven Avène Thermal Spring Water to soothe, soften and calm the skin.
Originating as pure rain mixed with sea-spray rich in mineral salts, Avène Thermal Spring Water makes its 50-year journey through the Cévennes Mountains in Avène, France. During this journey, the water filters through the dolomites, mineral-laden porous rocks, where it comes into contact with an ancient microorganism, named Aquaphilus Dolomiae*, that produces key substances which are in part responsible for making Avène Thermal Spring Water so effective. This remarkable biological property, combined with the well-known mineral properties, is the double signature of Avène Thermal Spring Water.

About Camera Ready Cosmetics
Camera Ready Cosmetics was founded in 2003 by Makeup Artist Mary Erickson. She dreamed of having a pro makeup showroom where artists could play with professional products without the typical makeup store attitude.
Today, our team of beauty industry veterans work together to curate the best quality products on the market. We partner with brands who respect the industry and formulate products for true working artists. You won’t find CRC in high-end malls, and we don't wear matching brush belts.
If you want to play with products for a few hours and buy nothing, that's okay ... come in and play! Our store is your playground.
Introducing MYKITCO
Ask any makeup artist what the most important tool is in their kit, and odds are they'll have a hard time selecting from a group of their favorite brushes or a bag that allows them to stay tidy and organized on set. Each brush is designed with a different texture, finish, and product in mind, and when properly used, it can make all the difference, and we all know that having the proper case to house your makeup is key to working efficiently on set.
Needless to say, we know that this brand is one that you've been asking us to offer. We're thrilled to announce MYKITCO. is officially part of the Camera Ready family!
The Beginning
In 2015, makeup artist James Molloy and his partner, Alex Thompson, launched MYKITCO.™
Although James has had an incredible career as a makeup artist that has spanned more than 18 years and has traveled the world for international collections, headed up a major makeup brand as Director of Artistry for MAC Asia Pacific, and more recently became the global Ambassador for Rimmel London, he was never fully satisfied with the choice of tools and accessories available on the market.
Together with Alex, who completes the duo with his business and events background, they decided to create a brand that offers makeup artists and makeup lovers affordable, high quality professional brushes, bags, and accessories.
Starting in the spare room of their home, James and Alex took the utmost care to hand-make their original designs from scratch. James then tried and tested each and every bag and brush until they were perfect. With ultimate confidence in the quality they were offering, MYKITCO. quickly became an industry favorite, responsible for some major kit upgrades all over the world.
Their Purpose
While their purpose is to create professional brushes for makeup lovers, keeping the professional makeup artist in mind with all that they do is at the core of their company. They've worked hard to create a community that is passionate about the industry and are constantly inspired by the creativity and enthusiasm for makeup and a shared passion for professional and practical kit organization.
The Brushes
MYKITCO's award-winning makeup brushes are expertly hand-crafted using the finest materials. They have weighted, solid wood handles which are 7-layer lacquered to increase longevity and durability. In typical MYKITCO. fashion, James and Alex wanted to create tools that were perfect for those using them.
The brushes with gray handles include a range of classic makeup brush essentials that are suitable for all levels of artistry. The blue-handled brushes were created for pros and offer more variation in shape, finish, and function, and are suitable for more specialized makeup needs. As for the type of bristles, each brush has natural, synthetic, or a blend of both hairs to maximize the beauty of each product they’re designed to be used with.
While their products may be designed by professionals, James and Alex encourage makeup lovers of all skill levels to enjoy brushes from both lines and to explore their artistry with whatever brushes they prefer. Knowing the importance of education and their desire to help artists grow, they took the time to write tips on how to use each brush to showcase the benefits of each and how to maximize its uses.

PRO Tips for Caring for Your Brushes
To ensure the longest life of your MYKITCO. brushes, here are a few tips straight from James and Alex to keep them soft, shiny and clean!
1. Wash your brushes at least once per week using shampoo, pure olive oil soap or baby oil for more persistent makeup.
2. Wet the brush head in lukewarm water then swirl the tip into the shampoo or soap until it lathers. Continue to swirl until all makeup is removed.
3. Rinse the brush head under running water until all detergent is removed then squeeze out the excess water.
4. Groom the tip of your brush back to it's original shape and leave on a flat surface to dry.
5. For more persistent makeup such as lipstick and eyeliner, dip the tip of your brush in baby oil and swirl over a tissue to help break down the product. Shampoo your brush as normal to remove the oil residue.
Avoid submerging the entire brush in water as this will corrode the ferrule over time. Additionally, avoid harsh cleaning solutions as these may damage the natural brush fibers.
The Bags & Tools
James and Alex's dedication to pro artists didn't stop at brushes! They created bags that helped artists both on set and to store their brushes at home. From their best selling Brush Buddies to their PVC Pods and Pouches, each item is designed to make pro life easier with see-through and durable materials. Each bag is fashioned with attention to detail in mind - from detachable belts, extra compartments, and perfectly placed partitions to help keep you organized.

Routines for PROs
For the Bride
On the big day, every bride wants to look their best. The NuFACE FIX provides an instantly smoother canvas by smoothing out fine lines and plumping up the skin with gentle microcurrent in just three minutes. Using the feathering technique (learn more here), you can provide a soothing facial while also creating a more even base for makeup application. Simple start with cleansed skin, apply the NuFACE Fix Line Smoothing Serum, and treat the areas you want to smooth. The device will automatically turn off after three minutes. Tap any remaining serum into the skin, as it will provide extra hydration and will act as a primer for makeup.
For added contouring to the face, use the Trinity PRO or Mini to contour and sculpt the face using the 5-Minute Facial Lift, or give their eyes an extra using the ELE attachment.
For the Mother-of-the-Bride
In addition to using the NuFACE FIX to smooth lines, try the Lip Flick technique to smooth lip lines and plump the lips. This quick 3-minute treatment will also help prevent lip liner and lipstick from bleeding throughout the day. If time allows, treat the Mother-of-the-Bride to the 15-Minute Advanced Facial Lift.
For Quick Makeup Changes or Touch-ups
If you're on set and always on the go, be sure to keep the FIX and the Prep-N-Glow Cleansing Cloths handy for an instant perk-me-up! The cleansing cloths are dual-sided and remove makeup, dirt, oil, and impurities with soft spun lace while the polishing micro-dots provide gentle exfoliation to brighten skin.
These individually wrapped cloths are enriched with hydrating hyaluronic acid as well as antioxidants and minerals to keep skin looking radiant and beautifully refreshed, at home or on the go. They're the perfect way to exfoliate and cleanse skin before your microcurrent treatment.
Once properly cleansed, perform the Instant Line Smoothing Treatment, an easy 3-minute routine, to get skin ready for the next look. The skin will be instantly smoother, and your makeup will apply easier and be less prone to creasing.

Introducing NuFACE®
Information and images courtesy of NuFACE®
NuFACE is the leader in at-home beauty devices helping every client look and feel more beautiful. Using its flagship technology, microcurrent, NuFACE's award-winning products are clinically shown to help tone, firm, and reduce the look of wrinkles. The results are both instant for a quick lift and cumulative with continued use.
Let's discuss why we're excited to add this high-tech tool and skincare brand to our lineup!
Behind the Brand
BORN IN THE BEAUTY OF SOCAL
Carol Cole and her daughters, Tera Peterson and Kim Morales, created NuFACE out of their home in Encinitas, CA.
Carol, a licensed aesthetician, began her career in 1985 at the famed Golden Door destination spa in Escondido, CA. While administering treatments, she heard common anti-aging concerns from her clients such as sagging eyelids, loss of contour. and simply “tired of looking tired”. With this knowledge in hand, Carol started specializing in microcurrent facials and traveled weekly to Los Angeles to serve the most discerning clients in Hollywood. She soon recognized her clients’ need for more frequent microcurrent treatments so in 2005, Carol and her daughters (Tera—also an aesthetician), launched NuFACE for their clients to use at-home in between their professional microcurrent facials.
MEET NUFACE'S EXPERT AESTHETICIAN
Microcurrent Aesthetician Tera Peterson is the Co-Founder & Chief Creative Officer of NuFACE, the leader in at-home Microcurrent Skincare offering a range of award-winning devices and topical skincare products that deliver clinically tested, professional results and skin confidence to clients everywhere.
The Devices
NuFACE award-winning face and body toning devices put the power of microcurrent and pro-level, anti-aging skin treatments into the palm of your hand. As we age, our body's natural current slowly starts to break down, causing sagging skin, loss of contour, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. NuFACE microcurrent devices re-energize your skin’s natural current as it slows with age. This boost of energy travels beyond the surface of the skin to help tone, lift, and contour in as little as 5 minutes a day.
We are proud to offer four NuFACE microcurrent devices including the Trinity PRO, an upgraded version of the consumer-friendly TRINITY.
First, there’s the NuFACE® Trinity PRO. The NuFACE Trinity PRO delivers up to 400 microamps compared to its consumer-friendly counterpart, the Trinity which offers up to 335 microamps. The Trinity PRO is an advanced microcurrent facial toning device that helps improve facial contour, tone, and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in just 5 minutes a day.
To make the most of the Trinity Pro, you can swap out the original head with the ELE and TWR attachments to target the eyes and lips as well as perform light therapy with this powerful device.
SHOP NuFACE Trinity PRO
Next, there’s the NuFACE® Mini. Using the same microcurrent technology as the Trinity, the Mini gently stimulates the larger surface areas of the face and neck, but in a cute, compact size.
Like the Trinity, the Mini improves facial contour, tone, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Although compact, the Mini has great strength for a 5-Minute Facial-Lift® and is a great on-the-go microcurrent device.
SHOP NuFACE Mini
The NuFACE FIX® smooths lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead. Need a quick lift and invigorating mini facial on the go? The FIX is the perfect choice for you.
No bigger than a mascara tube, the FIX provides a gentle stimulation using microcurrents to the surface layers of skin with a quick erasing motion, smoothing away the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in just 3 minutes.
The FIX can also be used around the lip area for the appearance of fuller-looking lips.
SHOP NuFACE FIX
To round out the overall experience, the NuBODY by NuFACE® delivers a versatile 5-minute body sculpting routine.
Perfect for use at home or to enhance the services you offer to your clients, the NuBODY visibly tones, firms, and smooths the look of dimples providing a smoother silhouette. It’s designed for the larger, denser areas of the body and has four treatment spheres delivering a gentle, yet powerful, microcurrent to help smooth away the look of dimpled skin, known as cellulite.

The Skincare Products
Microcurrent is your exercise. Skincare is your nutrition. NuFACE's line of nutrient-enriched skincare products are formulated to activate NuFACE microcurrent so that you get the most out of every facial, lip, eye, and body treatment. These aren’t just your average skincare products and gel primers—they’re standalone beauty products packed with anti-aging benefits your skin will love whether you’re keeping them on after your microcurrent treatment or tapping them on throughout the day.
The Prep-N-Glow® Cleansing Cloths are dual-sided cleansing cloths that cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate the skin leaving a radiant glow. These cloths are a perfect way to prep your face before a microcurrent treatment.
For optimal microcurrent usage, gel primers are essential. The Hydrating Leave-On Gel Primer is a lightweight, velvety gel that hydrates your skin and pairs with the NuFACE TRINITY Pro, NuFACE Mini, and NuBODY. Absorbing easily, you can use it anytime you need a moisture boost. We also offer the NuFACE FIX Serum, which is a brightening and moisturizing facial serum.

With supercharged active beauty ingredients, your skin will burst with energy to awaken tired eyes, revive dull-looking skin, and restore radiance. The NuFACE FIX Serum helps to smooth, brighten, and tighten skin while locking in essential hydration.
For a quick pick-me-up or to reactive your primer if it begins to dry during treatment, the Optimizing Mist is a lightweight, oil-free spray that revitalizes and hydrates your face and body due to its soothing aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and botanical extracts.

Our Favorite At-Home Massage Techniques
Information courtesy of Fraicheur Paris
If you're hoping to elevate your self care and skin care routine, you're in for a treat! We have a few at-home massage techniques that can help soothe, depuff, and revitalize your skin in less than 20 minutes.
The "Skin Lifting" Massage
Skin lifting massages – or facelift massages, are the gentle, non-invasive alternative to other harsher lifting procedures. The goal? To enjoy a few minutes of heavenly relaxation and a lifetime of youthful skin. Through gentle and repetitive motions, a skin lifting massage can smooth the appearance of wrinkles and provide a lifted effect to sagging skin.
Given its goal of lifting and sculpting, a skin lifting massage is conducted using upward and downward strokes. It is recommended that you start at the base of the neck and work your way to the forehead, avoiding pulling down at any given moment.
For maximum results, allow your ice globes to cool for at least one hour before starting your facial.
The Technique
Use circular motions and alternate with straight upward movements to increase blood flow. Knead your jawline skin and the contour of your face by pulling up. Repeat each stroke 5 to 10 times before moving to the next area.
Be gentle around the eyes and use soft strokes to massage the skin in this area as it can be extremely sensitive. Take a few seconds to close your eyes and tenderly press the ice globes over your eyelids. Don’t forget about your eyebrows, pure pampering awaits!
For your cheeks, use upward diagonal movements that follow the bone life. You can continue the stroke to your temples and apply pressure here. After giving your cheekbones some well-deserved love, move to the forehead and use the same upward moves, beginning at the upper end of your eyebrows.
For best results, we recommend you incorporate this type of massage into your daily morning routine.
The Lymphatic Massage
Lymphatic massages, also known as lymphatic drainage massages, have been a staple in Asian skincare rituals for centuries.
This type of massage helps fluid from your lymph nodes drain toxins and wakes up the skin with renewed nutrients. Combined with the fresh power of ice globes, the effect is amplified to deliver a glow like never before due to reduced sallowness and puffiness. In addition, many report smaller-looking pores after a lymphatic massage.
While the commonly used lymphatic drainage technique involves rolling in downwards and outwards movements, it’s necessary to account for your complexion’s unique needs. Skincare specialists recommend that you adjust the strokes of an ice globes lymphatic massage according to your skin type.
The Technique
If you have dry skin, you need to make sure you coax nutrients deep into the tissue with gentle circular movements. Start from the base of the neck where the arteries are and work your way upwards.
For combination to oily skin, or if you're prone to breakouts, you need to start at the top and drain the waste down. For hyperpigmentation issues or fine lines, apply back and forth scraping movements to awaken the area.
No matter the type of strokes you need, make sure to tackle all facial areas: neck & jawline, cheeks, eyes, and forehead, in the order dictated by your complexion. For maximum results, perform the lymphatic massage during the evening. Ten to fifteen minutes is all it takes.

How Do Ice Globes Work?
Ice works by constricting blood vessels and thus tightening the skin. Once this happens, blood rushes away from the face and returns renewed, with fresh nutrients. This results in a brighter, more glowing complexion. The nutrients provide the skin with the building blocks needed to improve elasticity and can aid in preventing the appearance of wrinkles. While the effects may not be as immediate, many consider this method to be a non-invasive and natural alternative to Botox.
Ice Globes allow you to enjoy these same benefits without the melting mess and awkwardness of holding slippery ice cubes against your skin.

The Ultimate Guide to Skincare Tools
A good skincare routine isn’t just topical products like cleansers and moisturizers anymore. Skincare tools are taking the beauty industry by storm, combining centuries-old traditions with futuristic technology to create easier access to more youthful, happier skin.
We know it can be a bit overwhelming to keep up with all the new devices on the market. Luckily, we’ve tried them all and are rounding up our favorites in this blog.
For Cleaner, Radiant, and Exfoliated Skin
If you’ve become all-too-familiar with maskne over the past year, or if you simply want to ensure that you’re removing all traces of makeup at night, investing in a high-quality facial cleansing device can make a world of difference.
The Conture AeroCleanse Facial Cleansing Device is one of our favorites because it offers a gentle yet effective cleanse by utilizing sonic & airflow technology. The sonic vibrations remove dirt, excess oil, and makeup from pores, while airflow technology increases the suds of your favorite cleanser to more effectively carry away impurities. Whereas traditional cleansing can result in impurities being redeposited onto the skin, irritating it, the Conture AeroCleanse will thoroughly clean without overly-stripping the skin.
Exfoliation is also a key step to reveal healthy glowing skin, but the key is to be gentle.
If you’re seeking the perfect tool to exfoliate your body, the Esker Beauty Body Plane modernizes ancient Greek bathhouse rituals for a contemporary triumph. Crafted into a soft crescent shape made of teak wood, stainless steel, and sterling silver, the Esker Beauty body plane smooths skin and removes dirt and residue without damaging or irritating the skin’s moisture barrier. Sterling silver’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help enhance the product’s effectiveness while still remaining natural and gentle for even the most sensitive skin.

For Toning and Anti-Aging
If your number one skincare goal is anti-aging, skin toning is a must. The Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System is a celebrity favorite for more youthful skin, as it has isometric compression and low-frequency vibrations to stimulate and tone skin. This technology replicates what was once only available at med-spas and skin clinics. But now, thanks to Conture’s Kinetic Skin Toning System, you can effectively fight dullness, puffiness, and signs of aging from the comfort of your own home.
If you’re looking for something that’s simple but effective and easy to travel with, the FOREO BEAR is a best-seller that we highly recommend. This small but powerful toning device uses microcurrent and T-sonic pulsations to exercise the 65+ muscles in your face and neck, maintaining the firmness that these muscles normally lose with age. Every woman knows that the neck is the first place to show a woman’s true age. With the FOREO BEAR, you can fool them all with a tight, toned, and youthful appearance. If you want to try a microcurrent device but are on a budget, the FOREO BEAR mini is a great option. It has three microcurrent intensity levels instead of five, and it doesn't have FOREO's anti-shock technology. However, using plenty of SERUM, SERUM, SERUM will keep the tingling sensation at bay.

To Soothe Stressed Out Skin & Increase Circulation

For the Ultimate At Home Spa Experience
If you're short on self-care time but still want an incredibly effective way to elevate your skincare routine, a device that incorporates cryo-therapy or thermo-therapy may be a perfect choice. Cryo-therapy harnesses the benefits of lower temperatures (think of pro athletes taking an ice-bath after a strenuous workout) to invigorate the skin and muscles.
The FOREO UFO 2, a smart-masking device, also uses of cryo-therapy and cools to 5 degrees celsius for the safest, most effective treatment. However, it combines a sheet mask specifically designed to fit the device to penetrate deeper into the skin and deliver skin-loving ingredients in an at-home facial in just 90 seconds or less. In addition to cryo-therapy, this device can heat up to 45 degrees celsius, a temperature proven to open pores to allow essences, creams, and other skincare products to sink into the skin for maximum efficacy. Finally, the FOREO UFO 2 incorporates up to 10,000 sound waves per minute through a technology they call T-sonic pulsations (the same technology offered with the BEAR and BEAR mini) to help stimulate the skin and gently exfoliate the skin during your facial. To learn more about the FOREO UFO line and the differences between the devices, read this blog.
The final tool we have to include in our roundup is the award-winning Jenny Patinkin Rose on Rose Derma Roller. Health and Shape Magazine both named this derma rolling tool one of their best skincare tools because it is a fast, painless, and low-tech way to help enhance the performance of your favorite skincare products while also helping to boost circulation and soothe tension. A quick rolling session one to two times a week helps create thousands of micro-channels for your favorite products to sink deeper into the skin.

Our Top 3 Tips for Restocking Your Kit
If you're considering making a few changes while restocking your kit this year, you're not alone. Most artists have their staple products memorized and rarely deviate from that list, but every so often, a new or innovative product comes around that elevates your artistry. It's like baking chocolate chip cookies and swapping out your regular milk chocolate morsels with milk chocolate chunks. All of the ingredients remained essentially the same, but the small tweak made a delicious difference. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
Hungry to learn more? We thought you'd be! We spoke to our beauty advisors to get their top tips for refreshing your kit for the season ahead.
1. Make Sanitizing a Priority
Let's start with the topic that's on all of our minds, sanitation. Disinfecting and cleaning the products in your kit aren't new practices, but they're more important than ever. The extra steps you take to disinfect your products and tools will help you stay healthy and show your clients you are taking their safety into consideration, too. If you haven't updated your website or marketing materials to talk about the extra precautions you're taking, do that now!
For Your Makeup
BeautySoClean Cosmetics Sanitizer Mist is a must-have! This mist disinfects eye shadows, lipsticks, cream products, and more without drying them up nor changing the texture. An added perk? It's available in spritz bottles ranging from a purse-friendly size to an 8.5oz bottle you can keep on top of your station. If you prefer wipes, they have those, too!
SHOP BEAUTYSOCLEAN
For Your Makeup Kit, Bags, and Brushes
To make sure your makeup kit and bags are safely disinfected, be sure to grab a bottle of Rejuvenate. It's an eco-friendly, hospital-grade disinfectant that is commonly used at spas, salons, and clinics. Rejuvenate can be used on almost anything; it can be used to disinfect cloth, plastic, and glass but not brushes.
For your brushes, our best seller is Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner. It's an industry essential because it's fast-drying and leaves your brushes smelling fresh and clean. Just remember, this quick disinfecting option should not replace your regular deep cleaning with a brush soap because relying solely on a quick sanitizing dip or spray can break down the glue in the ferrule of your brush. Click here to view all of our brush cleaner options.
Want to take your disinfecting and cleaning routine to the next level? The Sterilelight ILLUMICIDE Case allows you to disinfect the surface of anything you place inside and even has a setting to dry your brushes if you deep cleanse with a brush soap in between clients. It uses short-wavelength ultraviolet light to kill or inactivate bacteria, viruses, molds, and other pathogenic microorganisms. In addition to disinfecting brushes, you can safely clean items like your mixing palettes, car keys, and phone in it.

2. Downsize, Customize, and Organize!
It's time to lighten the load! Let's free up some space in your kit and show you how you can minimize the amount of products you have to pack for each job.
Downsizing
Many artists are opting for compact bags and cases, so if you're ready to drop some extra weight, check out the Zuca Artist Backpack. It has plenty of pockets and slots to hold your tools including a thermal pocket to handle the heat of flat irons and curling wands. It even comes with two small clear vinyl pouches to take the guessing game out of what you're reaching for next.
Want to downsize even further? The Vueset Mini Palettes allow you to create pocket-sized versions of your favorite custom Vueset palettes and can be hung on the strap or handle of your bag or case and free up space inside your kit.

Customizing
There's just something about grabbing a palette knowing every shade it contains is a product and color you picked for that job.
The Z-Potter is a must-have for creating a custom palette. This flameless cooktop uses induction technology to separate blushes, eye shadow, and bronzers from their packaging. Want to create a lipstick or cream blush palette? The Z-potter has you covered there, too, and can melt down your products with ease. The days of carrying twenty lipsticks and six eyeshadow palettes that you only use two colors from each are over!
For complexion and cream products, the pro favorite Danessa Myricks Flexi Palette lets you customize liquids, creams and gels into interchangeable air-tight containers housed in a durable case.

Organizing
Nothing is worse than fumbling around in your kit to find a product. LippieBook cases will keep your favorite products in place and boast an impressive amount of slots to fit your kit essentials. For a larger jobs, the LippieBook Pro 3.0 has 32 small slots for pencils, 112 large slots to fit most tube-shaped products like lipsticks and depotted foundations, two large pencil sharpener slots, and two medium pouches for palettes and tools. The Baby Pro measures in at 13 inches x 8.5 inches x 4 inches but still offers 92 slots for lipstick, 27 slots for pencils, and one sharpener slot.
If you're like many other artists and are carrying more disposable applicators than ever, the Cozzette Mini Vessel is a great option to keep them separate from the rest of your supplies.

3. Say Goodbye to Old or Expired Makeup
We know tossing products can be a painful task. However, you always want your client to look their best, and expired or old makeup may not perform as well as it's supposed to.
Most products have a shelf life guideline on the box or packaging itself, but if you can't find the recommended timeline, we recommend reading the expiration guide below.
Mascara
Shelf Life: 3-6 months
Why Replace? Mascara needs to be replaced more frequently than any other beauty product. Every time you pump a mascara wand back into its tube, the product traps bacteria which can cause harmful eye infections.
When to Replace? If the product becomes dry and clumpy or the bristles have excessive buildup, it's time to re-order. Another tell-tale sign is the scent. If it changes at all, go ahead and toss it.
Shop Mascaras
Foundation
Shelf Life: 6 to 12 months
Why Replace? Unlike powder formulas, liquid foundations contain oils or other ingredients that break down over time. Pump containers provide more protection than ones with an open top. For open-top foundations, it’s best to put the product on to a palette before applying with a clean brush or sponge.
When to Replace? When a foundation is nearing expiration, you may notice dryness or changes in consistency.
Shop Foundations
Powder
Shelf Life: 2-3 years
Because they don’t require large amounts of water to manufacture, powders have a longer shelf life than most other cosmetic products. To prolong the life of your powder, store in cool locations with the lid firmly closed.
When to Replace? If you notice powder becoming more difficult to blend or chalky, a replacement is due.
Shop Powders
Gel Eyeliner
Shelf Life: 3-6 months
Like mascara, gel eyeliner should be at the top of your frequent replacements list. To lengthen the life of your gel liner, take a clean spatula and scoop out the amount you need onto a palette.
When to Replace? It's normal for gel liners to get dry over time. A product like Inglot Duraline or Cozzette Matrix Mixing Liquid can help revive a drying gel liner, but since you're opening and closing it frequently, replace it every three to six months, depending on how often you use it.
Shop Eyeliner
Eye and Lip Pencils
Shelf Life: 1-2 years
Pencils tend to last longer because they are constantly being sharpened, which provides a clean, fresh layer before each application. However, it's important to disinfect and sharpen them after every use since they're being used on the eyes and lips where bacteria levels are higher than other areas of the face.
When to Replace? It’s difficult to tell when an eye or lip pencil has gone bad, but a good rule to follow is to replace pencils that no longer sharpen easily. For example, pencils that frequently break-off after sharpening are best to toss. If you notice they're changing color, it's time to throw them away. Discoloration is often a sign of mold growing within the product.
Shop Eye Pencils
Shop Lip Pencils
Skincare
Shelf Life: Varies, but typically 12 months
The shelf life for skincare can vary based on the ingredients, packaging style, and frequency of use. However, a good rule of thumb is to replace it if it's been more than a year.
When to Replace? After a year, moisturizers and toners have lost most of their beneficial properties. The efficacy of the active ingredients decreases over time, and some deteriorate each time they're exposed to air. Others include ingredients that break down with exposure to light or extreme temperatures, so be sure to read the label and store them properly. Always apply these products with clean hands. Never add water to prolong the life of these products, as it dilutes the formula.
Shop Skincare
Brushes
Shelf Life: n/a
Makeup brushes can last for decades if you properly care for them. Purchase an all-natural, deep-cleaning brush cleaner to rid your bristles of pesky bacteria and buildup. We offer a variety of brush soaps and cleaners to clean and prolong the life of your tools.
When to Replace? If your brush sheds with every use or no longer applies product evenly, it may be time for replacements.
Shop Brush Cleaners
Shop Brushes
Other Guidelines
As a general rule of thumb, here are a few expert tips to help keep any makeup products you purchase from causing an infection:
1) Write the date of purchase on the outside of each product.
2) Federal law requires all makeup products to feature a PAO (Period After Opening) or BBE (Best Before End Date) symbol. A PAO symbol applies only if the shelf life is 30 months or more. Any less and the product will feature a BBE symbol.
3) Products made from natural ingredients will include an expiration date that applies even if unopened.
3) If you can’t find an expiration date, PAO or BBE label, check for the manufacture date. This will help you to know if the product is nearing expiration, as many unused cosmetics lose their quality over time.

Our Updated Brush Cleaning Routine
This week, we've discussed ways to focus on self care through skincare and a few fun tools. However, your makeup brushes deserve a spa day, too! In today's blog, Chris Luevanos, licensed esthetician and owner of Crazy Merman, joins us to discuss the importance of washing your makeup brushes, how often he recommends it, and how to know when it's time to say goodbye.
Q: How often should we wash our brushes?
If you research this topic online, you'll find a mixed bag of answers to this popular question. The American Academy Dermatology Association recommends washing your personal makeup brushes every 7 to 10 days, but in a world where mask wearing has left many of us with sensitive skin, you should consider washing them more frequently.
Chris: When it comes to the brushes you have for personal use, you should be washing them at least once a week. Pre-pandemic, it was recommended to wash the brushes you use with creams and liquids more often than your powder brushes due to the extra buildup of products, but that rule has gone out the window. Since we live in a time of COVID-19, I strongly encourage washing and sanitizing all of your brushes more frequently to ensure you're eliminating the risk of irritating your skin. If you're a makeup artist, it's essential to cleanse and sanitize your brushes between each and every client.
PRO Tip: To speed up the disinfecting and drying time of your brushes and tools on set, the SterileLight ILLUMICIDE Disinfecting Case will drastically reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning and sanitizing. When fully charged, this portable case can run up to 60 three-minute quick disinfect cycles. The case uses UV light wavelengths in the germicidal spectrum and can be used to provide surface disinfection for brushes, phones, makeup, metal mixing palettes, and more. It even has a setting that can help dry your brushes faster to save you precious time. When you're not using it to disinfect, use it as extra storage space to make the most of this powerful tool.
Each SterileLight ILLUMICDE Disinfecting Case comes with a gift with purchase set (a $54 value) that includes a makeup bag and mat to use on the job and a 4 oz. SterileLight Sanitizing Spray that can be used on your hands, brushes, and makeup.

Q: What are some of the skincare concerns proper brush washing can prevent?
Chris: Of course, dirty brushes can cause blackheads and whiteheads, but you can also develop eye styes that can be caused by a buildup of oil and debris on your lash line from your eyeliner and eyeshadow brushes. Other skincare concerns include bacterial acne breakouts, pink eye, and the most serious of all, a staph infection. There can also be bug infestations on your brushes or sponges you may not be able to see with the naked eye. I believe these concerns are completely avoidable if you wash your brushes more often and with the right makeup brush soap.
Q: What about makeup sponges?
It can be hard to distinguish between dirty sponge and a stained one. Our recommendation? Wash them regardless of how they look. A few extra minutes spent cleansing your sponges are worth the effort to keep them clean and to prevent skin irritation.
Chris: I'd recommend washing them one to three times a week, depending on the frequency the sponge is being used. Since they're used with cream or liquid-based products, wash them in warm soapy water with a deep cleaning brush soap. In between washes, spritz them with a makeup brush spray sanitizer. Make sure you are replacing sponges often. Sponges are porous and can trap bacteria inside the sponge.
Q: Is there a different method for washing natural hair brushes?
Chris: If you're using a proper brush soap, you can safely wash your natural hair and synthetic brushes with the same product and technique. I created Crazy Merman Brush Soap to be highly effective and to remove the most stubborn makeup products while still being gentle enough for the most fragile brush hairs.
Q: I use an instant brush sanitizer to clean my brushes. Isn't that enough?
Relying solely on dipping your brushes into instant brush cleaners will eventually break down the glue in ferrule. This will cause your brush to shed more, and it may shorten the life of your brush. Though these instant cleaners are efficient and safe to clean brushes in-between clients or in a pinch for personal use, deep cleaning with brush soap, allowing them to dry, and then spritzing with an instant brush cleaner in a spray bottle is less harmful to the brush.
For most artists, brushes are an investment, and using a soap like Crazy Merman Brush Soap will condition the brush's hair and remove any bacteria to ensure a long brush life.
Q: What are some of the most common brush cleaning myths you hear?
Chris: Many folks believe it's okay to use dish soap, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or other common household products to clean their brushes and tools. These products can damage your brushes, or even worse, some leave harsh chemicals behind. A soap that's designed specifically for brushes will extend the life of your brush instead of cutting it short and will ensure you're not accidentally putting unwanted chemicals or residue near your eyes or onto your face.
Q: How do you know when it's time to toss a brush and buy a new one?
Chris: Shedding and the overall shape can be a good indicator. When you buy a new makeup brush, make it a habit to spritz it lightly with a makeup or brush sanitizing spray, and sweep it back on a clean towel or paper towel to dry it. This will loosen any lightly glued bristles or bristles that were damaged when the manufacturer packaged it. Don't be alarmed if you see a lot of bristles falling out! It is normal for some types of brushes to shed up to 50 or so bristles to fall out during this process.
After that, it should shed lightly, aka 10 or less bristles, while washing it or applying makeup. Make sure you're deep cleaning them at least once a week, and whatever you do, do not soak them. Soaking can cause water to get into the ferrule of the brush and weaken the glue. This can result in more shedding, or even worse, the brush can fall apart altogether. If cared for properly, your brushes can last you many years, but if your brush is still shedding or shedding more with each washing, you may want to consider replacing it.
Ready to wash your brushes?
Now that we've discussed the importance of washing your brushes more frequently, let's go through the four easy steps to give them a good wash:
1. Wet the sponge or brush with lukewarm water before cleaning. For makeup sponges, gently rub the pointed tip and bottom of the sponge on the soap's hard surface three times on each side and then squeeze the sponge to lather for soap bubbles. For makeup brushes, rub the wet brush in a circular motion three times inside the container on the soap.2. Cup your hand or get a brush cleaning mat and gently rub or lightly swirl the makeup sponge or brush in the middle to activate the Crazy Merman Brush Soap. Do this for 10-15 seconds and rinse (do not submerge) with lukewarm water. Do it a second time if your heart desires.3. Remove excess water with a clean towel or pat brush on a paper towel.4. Reshape brushes and lay brushes flat to dry on a clean towel or paper towel. You're done!
Look simple? It is, so make sure you're cleaning your brushes at least once a week for best results. Your skin will thank you for it!

Ice Cubes vs. Ice Globes: Why Ice Cubes Are Good, But Ice Globes Are Better
Information courtesy of the Fraicheur Paris Team
The fact that ice works wonders for aching muscles and helps your body recover is not breaking news. Athletes have been dipping into ice baths ever since olympiads and marathons began. However, this cooling technique has gained momentum in the skincare community for its ability to reduce swelling, shrink blood vessels causing discoloration, and to provide a soothing massage for stressed out skin.
Yes, you could use ice cubes or a cold compress to aid in your next at home facial, but let's explore the benefits of a tool designed specifically for this purpose, the Fraîcheur Paris Ice Globes!
SHOP NOW
How do they work?
Ice works by constricting blood vessels and thus tightening the skin. Once this happens, blood rushes away from the face and returns renewed, with fresh nutrients. This results in a brighter, more glowing complexion. The nutrients provide the skin with the building blocks needed to improve elasticity and can aid in preventing the appearance of wrinkles. While the effects may not be as immediate, many consider this method to be a non-invasive and natural alternative to Botox.
The Ice Globes allow you to enjoy these same benefits without the melting mess and awkwardness of holding slippery ice cubes against your skin.
Step 1. Cool Your Ice Globes
For optimal results, allow your Ice Globes to cool in the freezer for at least 5-6 hours, or even better, overnight while you sleep. The ice globes are made using strong, high-quality glass, which is filled with an antifreeze formula. They don’t collect condensation on the outside and are sturdy enough to last.
Step 2. Massage
Cleanse your skin with your favorite cleanser, pat dry, and massage your face with ice globes for 5-15 minutes. Upward movements work best to lift your skin while downward movements work best to encourage lymphatic drainage, reducing the swelling of facial lymph nodes. To elevate your massage and increase the benefits of this treatment, combine with your favorite sheet mask, moisturizers, or serum.
Step 3. Clean the Ice Globes
If you're thinking it sounds like a simple routine, you're right! Use a gentle washcloth and mild soap to wipe the Ice Globes clean, and you're done! For safekeeping, store them either in the padded box they arrived in or wrapped up in a towel in your freezer until your next massage.
What are the additional benefits, and how often should I use it?
In addition to depuffing and brightening your skin, Ice Globe massages can relax facial muscles, reduce acne, and soothe sunburn or irritated skin. You can enjoy this routine daily, so massage away!

How to Use the Esker Body Plane
Images & information courtesy of the Esker Beauty Team
When it comes to skincare, exfoliation is essential to prevent clogged pores and to remove dead skin cells. However, many of us forget about this step when it comes to our bodies. We can easily hide dry patches, bumps, and irritation underneath layers of clothing, but proper skincare and treatment can help reduce and prevent those pesky skincare problems. That's where the Esker Beauty Body Plane comes in!
What is a body plane?
The Esker Beauty Body Plane is the modernized version of the Strigil, an ancient tool used by Romans and Greeks to clean themselves and scrape dirt off of their bodies because soap wasn’t really a thing in those days. The Esker Beauty team redesigned and updated the Strigil from its original hook shape into a soft, crescent form using premium teak wood and sterling silver plated stainless steel. The handle is made of teak wood because it ages well when it’s in contact with oil. The blunted edge may look intimidating at first but is not sharp; they liken it to the edge of a credit card, and it is made from colloidal sterling silver plating because it naturally embodies antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities, leaving skin soothed and smoothed after use.
Now that we've discussed what the body plane is, let's talk about how to use the body plane and explore the benefits of this modern day strigil.
How to use the body plane
Step 1. Soak
Like other body tools, the Body Plane is most effective if you use it right after you’ve taken a long hot bath or shower when your skin is still warm and damp. If your skin is damp and then you apply an oil, you’ll really see how much dead skin and debris the Body Plane will exfoliate away.
Step 2. Oil
Immediately after bathing, apply a favorite oil generously to your skin. To maximize the body plane's efficacy, Esker Beauty offers three oils to target different skincare needs. It’s key that you apply an oil first because it acts as the slip for the Body Plane as you move it along your body. If you’re using a dry oil, don’t be shy to apply a generous amount as it will absorb into your skin at a quicker rate than other body oils, and don’t wait until your skin is dry or it will be more difficult to move the plane up your body!

Step 3. Glide & scrape
Starting with your arms and legs, use moderate pressure to glide the body plane across your skin with the blade side down (don’t worry, it’s not sharp like a blade; we liken it more to the edges of a credit card). Use upward motions like you would if you were shaving your legs. Using an upward, gliding motion towards your heart and trunk can also help with lymph drainage in addition to exfoliating away debris and dead skin.
Step 4. Wipe & repeat
After you’ve done a few passes, rinse or wipe the blade with a cloth or towel and keep going until you’ve exfoliated everywhere! The Body Plane is safe to use across all parts of your body as it cleanses and exfoliates without damaging your skin’s moisture barrier. It’s especially effective on rougher and more resilient parts of your body like arms, legs and elbows, and is a great tool to use if you have KP bumps on the backs of your arms.
What are the additional benefits, and how often should I use it?
For maximum results, we recommend using it weekly or biweekly for a deeper clean and major skin exfoliation. It is also a great tool for lymphatic drainage. When you use upward, sweeping motions on your arms and legs toward your heart and trunk, you’re actually encouraging blood and lymph circulation while you’re getting all of the tool’s exfoliating benefits. Consider it a gua sha for your body, but with the added bonus of smooth, fresh skin.

The beauty of this tool is the simplicity, the easy repetitive motions and the results, but don't take our word for it! Watch the video below!

4. Conture AeroCleanse Facial Cleansing Device
This revolutionary sonic facial cleansing brush generates gentle, yet effective airflow that cleanses skin by removing traces of makeup, dirt, and oil. Think of it like an air hockey puck. It glides along without touching the surface of the table thanks to a steady flow of air pushing it upward.
This device captures the same concept with its patent pending technology and is proven to cleanse skin more effectively than traditional hand cleansing. This unique combination of airflow and sonic power increases the lather of cleansers improving the ability to clean skin with less product.
A recent Healthline article dubbed AeroCleanse one of the Hi-Tech Beauty Gadgets Worth The Price thanks to the benefits of sonic cleansers. One scientific study revealed sonic brushes may aid in the removal of pollutants, sebum, and other irritants on the skin and aid in anti-aging, while a second study involving subjects with acne (ranging from mild to moderate) showed a decrease in breakouts when using a sonic cleansing brush.

3. Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System with Serum
The Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System utilizes Isometric Compression combined with Low Frequency Vibrations to gently stimulate and tone skin for a more youthful looking appearance. This technology is similar to those used, and once only available, by professionals in med-spas and skin centers. Used daily, the Conture Kinetic Skin Toning System has been clinically shown to enhance the appearance and absorption of skin. The result? Overall signs of aging, dull and tired-looking skin are improved and skin is left feeling and looking radiant and more youthful.
Odds are, if you're a skincare tool junkie, you've heard it's one of Jessica Alba's must-haves for pre-party prep. In 2020, she helped this skin toning system skyrocket to fame by showing how she uses it in her Instagram stories and later filmed a video for Vogue demonstrating how it works. The Kinetic Skin Toning System has also received additional praise from Dr. Dendy Engleman, a Dermatologist at Manhattan Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery and Director of Dermatologic Surgery at Metropolitan Hospital, in an article published by Byrdie in December 2020.
"It gently lifts and releases the targeted skin zone to stimulate the skin, similar to the positive effects seen in skin massaging. Conture's massaging effects are clinically proven to improve the skin's radiance/luminosity while simultaneously reducing the signs of aging," she told Byrdie. "Using a device particularly designed for facial massages is a more sanitary solution and also enables the product being applied to be absorbed deeper into the skin."
To maximize the benefits of this device, Conture has a lineup of skincare products designed to work in tandem with all of their tools.

2. FOREO UFO Series
If you're seeking to enhance your self care routine with an at-home spa experience, look no further. These tools allow you to recreate a spa-like facial in the comfort of your home in three minutes or less. The UFO syncs with your phone and helps guide you through each treatment.
The biggest difference between the UFO 2, UFO Mini 2, and UFO Mini is that the UFO Mini 2 and UFO Mini do not provide Cryo-Therapy (the cooling feature that helps close your pores to help seal in moisture and the skin-loving ingredients in each of their masks), while the UFO 2 does. The UFO 2 and UFO Mini 2 both offer a full spectrum of Light Therapy, but the UFO Mini only offers Light-Therapy in three wavelengths; red, blue, and green. To learn more about the benefits of light therapy and the benefits of each FOREO UFO, click here to read our blog dedicated to this powerful tool and the corresponding FOREO Masks designed for specific skincare needs.

1. FOREO Bear Mini
Aside from being cute, this high tech tool has been dubbed "a workout for your face". Microcurrent facials were once only available in a professional setting, but this pocket-sized device provides microcurrent therapy in the comfort of your home.
How does it work?
According to a blog published by FOREO, the BEAR Mini's microcurrents encourage your skin to produce ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate. This activity stimulates elastin and collagen in the treated areas. Additionally, the microcurrent therapy activates your body's signals to repair tissue and further stimulates collagen production. This mini massage also helps reduce puffiness and can brighten the appearance of your skin.
What are the benefits, and how long do they last?
While some of the benefits like de-puffing and toning are visible after just a few uses, continued use is needed to maintain the stimulation of elastin and collagen.
What makes the FOREO BEAR mini better than other microcurrent devices?
BEAR mini features the patented Anti-Shock System™ - making it the world’s safest microcurrent device. Advanced sensors measure your skin’s resistance to electricity then automatically adjust the intensity to eliminate any chance of shock (which can negate any of the positive ATP building effects of the treatment).
Is FOREO BEAR mini safe for me if I have a heart condition or am pregnant?
We recommend checking with your doctor before starting a microcurrent routine.

All About Setting Spray Part 2: The Most Important Tool In Your Kit
I’m sure there are at least 100 answers I can give to this question. As an Artist, foundation, sponges and brushes are important – in fact, everything we carry is important or it wouldn’t be taking up real-estate in our makeup cases. Average consumers are finally realizing what many artists consider one of their most important tools: setting spray. Why spend an hour on doing the perfect makeup just to have it fade away or move around?
Creating Mask-Proof Makeup
If you’ve worn a face mask with makeup on, you know the makeup ends up on your mask, and it’s not pretty. If you’re like me, you remove the mask the minute you get into your car or your home, and this on-and-off motion can be hard on your makeup. A good sealer will help minimize the rub off onto your mask. My favorite sealer is the Ben Nye Final Seal, which is also one of the most popular setting sprays in the professional makeup industry.
Facts About Ben Nye Final Seal
Final Seal has been around over 20 years, and real pros have been using it that long.
It can be used prior to makeup application to retard perspiration.
Final Seal may be applied with Ben Nye ProColor Aqua Airbrush Paints to make paints waterproof.
You can blend Final Seal with F/X Crème Colors for added durability.
Ben Nye just came out with a 4-oz size that comes with a sprayer. This is in addition to the 1-oz bottle already very popular for artists kits, and of course the 8-oz size to keep for refilling.
It is made in Los Angeles, California at the Ben Nye factory.
Ben Nye does not sell direct to the consumer. The company’s focus is manufacturing a great product and not competing with their retailers. In today’s world this is very rare, and retailers respect the company for taking this stance, allowing them to do what they are good at while Ben Nye focuses on making great products.
In addition to producing Final Seal at their LA factory, they also produce their cult favorite Banana Powder, a pro and makeup lover favorite thanks to Kim Kardashian, Wayne Goss, and other celebrities and makeup artists.
Jackie Aina tested (and approved) Ben Nye Final Seal as a great way to make your makeup mask-proof.
MUA Wayne Goss included Ben Nye Banana Powder in his recent Best Powder roundup video.
Behind the Brand

Ben Nye is a long-time family business owned by Dana Nye. I’ve met and chatted a lot with Dana Nye over the years. When it comes to the business of makeup and manufacturing products for pro Artists, you won’t find a more passionate person than Dana. I’ve toured the Ben Nye factory, and it felt like I was touring the Willy Wonka chocolate factory from a child's eyes. The entire place is pristine and well maintained; you could eat off the floors there. I had to throw that in because I was beyond impressed with the factory, and I’ve toured a lot of cosmetics factories over the years.

PRO TIPS: Incorporating TEMPTU Into Your Kit
Photos courtesy of TEMPTU
If you have an event or a photoshoot to attend, setting spray is a must-have in the whole make-up process. Not only does it hydrate your skin, it also helps prevent your makeup from fading away or from getting cakey. Whether you’re attending a long-haul event, shooting under the torrid heat of the summer sun, setting sprays help your make-up stay in place for long periods of time. Goodbye, smudges and hourly touch-ups!
In this blog, we talked to Leslie Hernandez, a professional make-up artist and the CEO of Backstage Makeup Professionals based in Dallas, Texas.
Behind the Brand
From the red carpet to the runway, TEMPTU has created show-stopping looks for some of the most iconic faces in fashion, music, and film. Their breakthrough formula first turned heads in 1981’s cult classic film Tattoo, where TEMPTU's original paint formula and tattoo ink transfer was introduced. It became an overnight success with Hollywood makeup professionals and soon their body paints and cosmetics were in high demand.
In 1996, they revolutionized the pro cosmetics industry with the introduction of our airbrush foundation. The unparalleled flawless finish of TEMPTU’s formulas has made their brand an industry go-to for decades.
In 2009, they launched the very first easy-to-use, home airbrush makeup system. Finally, everyone could achieve flawless makeup application with professional results by combining the sleek Airbrush Makeup System with their exclusive Airpod™ Makeup.
TEMPTU is proud to be the face of modern beauty, setting the standard for professional and at-home cosmetics. Believing that every woman deserves to put her best face forward, they continue to innovate to make effortless, camera-ready radiance a reality for everyone, whether you’re dodging the paparazzi or dashing to the corner store.
A Look Back at 30 Years of Temptu
Photos, about the brand, and highlights above courtesy of TEMPTU
Getting Started with TEMPTU
CRC: When did you start using TEMPTU, and how did you hear about it?
Jen: I started using TEMPTU about six years ago when I was in school for makeup. I had no idea what airbrush makeup was at that point, and it’s now one of the most used products in my kit. The school I attended only used TEMPTU airbrush, and they had about a half dozen compressors and guns. We would all take turns airbrushing each other to really get the feel for it. Since then, I’ve only ever used TEMPTU. I’ve graduated through a few compressors and guns. I, now, work with the cordless TEMPTU Air and I’ve never looked back!
CRC: What are the benefits of using TEMPTU?
Jen: For me, TEMPTU has benefits all around. Application is quicker, it tends to be easier, it calls for a more even application, and it cuts down on contact with clients. Although I tell my clients they will get a flawless finish no matter what type of foundation they choose, once TEMPTU sets, it tends to transform skin into its most flawless version, especially over time.

Color Matching & Different Skin Types with TEMPTU
CRC: Tell us about color matching with TEMPTU and how it compares to the process with other products you've worked with?
Jen: Color matching is one of the most nerve-wracking things about being a makeup artist. No one wants to look like a ghost in photos or have that line of foundation at the jawline if the foundation is too dark. For me, color matching comes with time and lots and lots of practice.
When I had the TEMPTU compressor and airbrush gun where I had to physically load the foundation, it was easier to color match because I would be able to pour out a small amount onto my palette and test it on someone’s jawline, whereas now, using the TEMPTU Air, the foundation is already loaded into the foundation pods that I then load onto my cordless compressor so it makes it more difficult and a little more time consuming to do. However, practice makes perfect, and I know they have the TEMPTU Air Pod Pro DUO that allows you to mix any airbrush foundations to create the custom shade you need, load it into the Pod, and airbrush away!
Working with the TEMPTU Air for the past few years now, I can just look at someone and know what color I will need to use on them. To double check, I hold the pod up to their neck or chest and can compare the tones in their skin to the tones in the makeup.
CRC: What about different skin types or textures?
Jen: SKIN PREP IS EVERYTHING! I’ve had brides who come in for their trial and their skincare routine is next to nothing and when I airbrush them, you can tell that their skin isn’t taken care of very well and needs some tender loving care, even after I skin prep them. Once their wedding comes around and I’ve gotten them on a decent skincare routine, the results are mind blowing. You can physically tell the differences between the two separate applications.
No matter what skin type you have, TEMPTU will hands down perform amazingly, but skin prep is everything. Having freshly moisturized and prepped skin will enhance its benefits and help the airbrush makeup last even longer.
CRC: What are some of the other things you find TEMPTU to be superior at?
Jen: It is great to cover tattoos. I may need to use one or two shades on a tattoo coverup, but I like to use a high pigment concealer before I airbrush and then airbrush over top of that. The actual act of airbrushing also helps with the covering process because you're not pressing and spreading the product, it's being directly applied to the skin without any manipulation and once it dries I'll set it with powder. There may be a couple of layers but any more than two or three may start to look too artificial, so just be mindful. If you can, do a trial run with your client ahead of time.
The Perks and Pros of TEMPTU
CRC: Tell us how your kit contents change when using TEMPTU.
Jen: TEMPTU makes it so easy to pack your airbrush into your kit. I'm pretty sure I screamed with excitement when they announced they were coming out with the TEMPTU Air. It has made airbrushing multiple clients in a single job, like a larger bridal party, so much easier. It has been amazing!
CRC: Experiencing the makeup firsthand can really help you learn more about how it feels, wears, and performs. Have you ever used it on yourself?
Jen: I have airbrushed myself only a handful of times but have worn TEMPTU for close to 22 hours. Yes, 22 hours. I did the makeup for the large bridal party in the morning and attended the wedding after. I airbrushed myself early in the morning so I wouldn’t have to do it in the afternoon after I had worked all morning. I danced the night away. So overall, it was about 21-22 hours with maybe 1-2 touchups and the touchups consisted of just a little powder. When I say this makeup lasts, it lasts.
For touchups throughout the day, I suggest just a compact with some pressed powder, either translucent or with pigment that matches your skin tone, to touchup, especially in the t-zone where we tend to get oily and makeup can start to separate.
Photo courtesy of Louis Anthony Photography
CRC: If you could recommend just ONE product, what would it be and why?Jen: Since the TEMPTU Air has to be used with a product to work, I'll choose two! I love the TEMPTU Air for it's ease of use, and my go-to TEMPTU product is the SilkSphere Foundation. I use SilkSphere foundation versus the Perfect Canvas foundation. SilkSphere offers more of a luminous finish, which I prefer to work with. It has built in color correctors making coverage really easy! There's also a built in primer to create a flawless finish. I love a good, luminous finish! I think this is more of a personal preference. If I have a client with oily skin, I just make sure to prep them a little differently and give them just a bit extra powder. Regardless of the type of skin, I feel the SilkSphere looks good on everyone.

CRC: If someone looks at your work on Instagram, they will see a lot of before and after photos of your clients. Tell us why you like to include them!
Jen: I believe before and after photos are so important! How are you going to know the kind of work I did without it?! I know it may not be as aesthetically pleasing to see on Instagram compared to only having professional photos, but I'd much rather know the quality of work an artist can do rather than the color scheme of their Instagram feed.
CRC: Any final tips or advice to folks that are interested in TEMPTU?
Jen: Airbrush makeup isn’t cheap to keep in your kit so see if it is something that will overall pay for itself. If it’s something that you know you will profit from, read about the different kinds of airbrush makeup TEMPTU offers and how it is made so you know what you’ll be working with. If you start researching and you really feel like it’s all over your head, ASK! Ask a fellow pro artist on Instagram (I’m always willing to help!). Never be afraid to reach out. Search through hashtags and find other artists that use TEMPTU to see who has your style and go from there.
If you decide to invest, practice on friends and family. Ask people to be your test models. No one’s skin is the same so your results will always vary and you’ll learn so much from that. Confidence is key when using airbrush makeup on clients because it's a form of makeup they likely haven't used before.
Behind the Scenes
Enjoy these photos of Jen's clients, and a special thanks to @tomtomphoto_, @kirstenwhitephoto and @kandco.photos for the professional photos.

Your 3-Step Guide For Washing and Drying Makeup Brushes
As pro artists and wearers of makeup, we’re in daily contact with makeup brushes. The team at Camera Ready is frequently asked to identify the “golden rule” of how often, what method, and with what tools we wash and dry our makeup brushes.
For starters, there doesn’t seem to be one steadfast rule everyone follows. So we’ve narrowed down a simple, 3-step brush cleaning routine that takes minimal time and effort for maximum results – better makeup application, longer lasting brushes, and a more sanitary makeup kit.
The Importance of Proper Brush Care
Every swipe of a brush across the face leaves product (and possibly bacteria) on top of the skin. The longer you wait to clean your brushes, the more buildup of bacteria you allow, which leads to breakouts, irritation, and – in extreme cases – infection.
The vast array of brush soaps and cleansing tools on the market today leaves little excuse not to practice routine brush maintenance. As a general rule of thumb, every two weeks is the very least you should clean a personal brush collection. Once a week is ideal.
For use on clients, we suggest cleaning makeup brushes after each job, or at least once a week.

How To Wash Makeup Brushes In 3 Easy Steps
Protect your investment in makeup brushes with this simple, super-fast cleansing routine that will prolong the lifespan of your bristles:
Step 1: Wet the makeup brush, and apply a sanitizing brush soap. For sensitive skin, choose a natural brush soap with skin-nourishing, organic or vegan ingredients.
Step 2: Swirl your brush in circular motions on a cleansing mat until a foamy lather forms. Add more soap, as needed. Keep swirling until the soap is rinsed out completely and water runs clear.
Step 3: Gently squeeze the brush with your hands to remove excess water, and hang brushes bristle-side down from a drying tower* for 6-8 hours or until fully dry.
*If you don’t have access to a drying tower, use a hair-tie or rubber band to fasten brushes to a rack or bar to dry.

Erica Ages, Georgia Makeup Artist “The BECCA Backlight Priming Filter is a staple in my kit because I can use it with a wide range of skin tones. It is great on skin by itself, but you can also use it under, mixed with, or on top of foundation to give a soft skin-like glow.”
Gia McCloud, Dallas Makeup Artist “I have been using Ben Nye Final Seal for years on my clients, especially in the hot and humid summer weather. A few sprays will leave my applications locked in all day. This matte finishing spray also provides an awesome waterproof coat on eyeshadow looks, too!”
Doris Torres-Collins, Florida Makeup Artist “Scott Barnes has been a staple in my pro kit for years, with his original launch years ago. Body Bling is my go-to when I work with models and fashion shows. Scott Barnes has been a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration, so it's great to have products I can use that are professional grade and red carpet ready!”
Ana Sanchez-Burdette, Dallas Makeup Artist “Aside from actually training with Maurice Stein (the creator of Cinema Secrets), I love how smooth Cinema Secrets Primer makes foundation and/or correctors glide on. My applications are seamless and blend well. No “pooling” into the pores. It’s great for HD work.”
Ruth M., Canadian Makeup Artist “I keep Danessa Myricks Beauty Oil in my kit because it makes everyone look like they have a flawless, glowing complexion, regardless of age or skin type. It absorbs and hydrates skin without an oily feel. It also mixes with foundation and moisturizer perfectly, particularly the Vision Cream Cover. The glow is natural, never overdone.”
Samantha Navarro, Maryland Makeup Artist “Embryolisse Lait Crème is an absolute kit essential! Absorbs quickly, but provides a glowing, moisturized finish to the skin. Great for nearly all skin types and textures!”

Laura Cotterill, United Kingdom Makeup Artist
“Sheet masks are my go-to product for hydration in my makeup kit. I love using masks that contain vitamin C for the ultimate skin drink to boost energy and hydration. Masks help hydrate before makeup application, and teamed with eye sheets, everything just looks flawless!”
Keisha Kerr, Canadian Makeup Artist
“Skyn Iceland’s cooling eye patches [are a must-have], and they double as shadow shields.”
Heather Hawkins, North Carolina Makeup Artist
“Sunscreen is ALWAYS a staple in my kit. It not only gives protection to keep all the bad UVs away, but it also can act as a primer, a moisturizer and give a youthful glow - depending on the sunscreen. I love multi-purpose products! Saves space & weight when carrying a mobile salon!”

TOOLS TO INVEST IN
Candice Ennis, Virginia Makeup Artist
“Color theory is a necessary fundamental for any make-up artist. It’s an essential technique when understood, but can be a challenge to master. I always keep a color wheel in my kit for custom undertone foundation mixing and creative body art color designs.”
Gayla Gastler, Chicago Makeup Artist
“[I always have] a small battery-operated facial trimmer to remove facial fuzz.”
Naomi Blakeslee, California Makeup Artist
"I use BeautyBlenders for a few reasons: 1) A damp beauty blender gives me a flawless dewy finish. 2) They make it easier to reach awkward areas that many brushes can’t reach, like around the nose and around the eyes. 3) Many people believe BeautyBlenders are for application only, however, they work just as good for removing makeup!"
Kirsty Smit-Wingfield, Virginia Makeup Artist
“I love the Paw Palettes! They are so unique, keep my kit looking neat and my products clean.”
Amber Preston, Ohio Makeup Artist
“I’m OBSESSED with the Temptu Airbrush Compressor for so many reasons: 1) It’s lightweight & compact, saving room in my kit. 2) It’s cordless! You won’t always have an outlet in the space you’re working. 3) Long battery life! It’s quiet, but mighty spraying capabilities include three different speed settings. It truly is the best compressor I’ve ever tried, and I’ve gone through many in my career.”
Julie Fischer, Philadelphia Makeup Artist
“Vueset has become invaluable in my kit. They help condense my products, and I can easily see what I have with their space-saving, transparent design. Since starting to use Vueset cases, I feel I work more quickly and efficiently on the job. I use them for necessities such as lipsticks, false eyelashes, prep products, disposables and more!”

“[I prefer using a] brushfolio to keep my brushes organized and easily accessible.”
Glynnis Garcia, Nashville Makeup Artist
“The Makeup Light is the only light anyone needs for makeup. I weigh 95 lbs. Do you really seeing me lugging a hair kit, a makeup kit, AND a ring light?! Heck no. I can attach it on a mirror, curtains, the tripod, on a chair, anywhere! TML all the way.”
Dana Hall, New York Makeup Artist
“Many times I would go on location, and there wasn’t a chair high enough. I would have to bend over, squat, or put myself in very awkward positions to work on a client's face. Now, no matter where I go for a makeup job, my Tuscany Pro Makeup Chair comes with me. The attached strap allows me to carry it on my shoulder, and off I go!”
Jessi Pagel, Texas Makeup Artist
“The Zuca Sport Artist Rolling Kit is my absolute favorite for multiple reasons:
1) I can alternate from each job to have exactly what I need when I need it.
2) The organizational options are endless!
3) It travels with ease and is so portable!
For celebrity makeup/hair jobs, I like the Zuca Artist Backpack. It has the ability to serve as a hair kit alone. An additional bonus is that it fits right on top of the rolling Zuca or you can wear it as a backpack.”
Jilladair Carlson, Missouri Makeup Artist
“Everybody is going through something. Getting your makeup done whether for a film, commercial or wedding can be stressful for clients, which can make my job more difficult. When someone sits in my chair, they get a "Soul" package to soothe their soul.
My Soul Kits include: 1) Hershey Kisses (Who doesn't need a kiss?) 2) Lifesaver Mints (We all feel better with fresh breath.) 3) A tea bag 4) An instant latte packet 5) A protein bar 6) An empty paper cup (They can drop all of their woes.) It never fails to put a smile on my client’s face, which helps them relax so we can both enjoy the ride.”

MISCELLANEOUS MUST-HAVES
Pam Jean, Kentucky Makeup Artist
Aromatherapy: “As a makeup artist I began using essential oils to help me when working. They provide a sense of calm and focus that is crucial to provide my clients with an energetic, balanced, yet calm experience. Take your bride from frazzled to dazzled with a travel diffuser, roller baller, neck wrap for the therapeutic benefits to elevate their bridal beauty experience.”
Camera Ready Cosmetics
Brush Cleaner: Crazy Merman's handmade brush soaps begin with a cruelty-free, vegan base of natural ingredients and essential oils. Their fusion of coconut and olive oil removes makeup from natural and synthetic brushes, leaving them luxuriously soft, clean and conditioned. Because of their lack of harsh chemicals, Crazy Merman soaps are also perfect for cleaning beauty sponges and other tools.
Eloise Reed, United Kingdom Makeup Artist
A Diary: “[Helps me] know exactly when and where my next client will be, and I can easily see where I have free time to book new clients.”
Cameron Carson, Virginia Makeup Artist
Duraline by Inglot: “A must-have for mixing into eyeshadows! Duraline helps with smudging liner on clients with hooded lids who have trouble with excessive creasing. Delivers no-crease, all-day wear!”
Glynn Renee Bryant, New York Makeup Artist
Phone Charger: “I’ve been on jobs where no one has a phone charger, so I carry an industrial size USB charging box for up to six phones at a time. I also carry an all-natural bug repellent. Some makeup trailers I’ve worked in have mosquitos. Basically, I try to be a walking CVS.”
Camera Ready Cosmetics
Eyeshadow Primer: The Smashbox Photo Finish 24-hr Shadow Primer keeps shadow in place, not all over your face for 24 hours. It’s a fade-proof, sheer, colorless formula that intensifies color and finish to ensure your eye looks survive workouts, nights out and big days.
Felicia Yvette, Maryland Makeup Artist
Magnifying Glass: “Sam Fine or Lottie Tomlinson (one of them!) taught me to keep a magnifying glass [in my kit] so I can always see those tiny little details, especially for beauty work.”
Tracy Saunders, Seattle Makeup Artist
Nail Polish: “Always carry nail polish. I’m surprised at how many clients’ nails look terrible!”
Janet Richardson, International Makeup Artist
Spatulas: “I must have my Graftobian Spatula! I use it for so many things, especially to scrape foundation to prevent cross contamination.”

How To Build A Pro Makeup Artist Kit (For Under $1000)
If you’ve been following along with our blogs, you’ve learned the best ways to start building your brand and step into the makeup artist industry. Now while all of that is incredibly important, you certainly are not going to get far without the right kit.
Having been a makeup artist in the industry for over 30 years, Camera Ready Cosmetics' founder Mary Erickson knows quality and value. She understands what makeup essentials an artist needs.
3 Key Things to Consider When Creating your Makeup Artist Kit:
Quality
Multifunction
Sanitation
Quality Matters When It Comes to Makeup Essentials for Your Kit
When we say quality, we are talking about professional-grade products made for makeup artists. Now, while YouTube and Instagram will have a ton of suggestions for how to build your starting makeup kit, keep in mind that beauty bloggers and celebrities are often being paid to push certain products, and quality does not always factor into the equation.
High-quality makeup essentials are not going to include the eyeshadow palette you got with 20+ shades for $15 on Amazon. When purchasing a product for your makeup artist kit, you should consider the ingredients, what is the color payoff, and is the product going to lay on the skin well.
Packaging is also important. The product needs to be able to withstand wear and tear, or at least be able to be broken down and redistributed into empty palettes for ease of travel.
Multifunction is a Must for Your Makeup Artist Kit
Not everything in your starting makeup kit is going to be able to have a variety of functions, but the more items you have that can serve different purposes, the better. This will help streamline your kit, save space, and reduce weight.
Examples of this are makeup essentials like brushes that can be used on eyes or lips, shadows that can be used wet or dry, or even lip color that doubles as a blush. It’s really up to you and your imagination as to how you can use items in different ways.
For Your Starting Makeup Kit, Remember: Sanitation Is Crucial
Remember that you’re going to use this kit on many different people and not just yourself. You must keep not only your brushes and tools clean but also your makeup.
It’s important to not just choose disinfecting sprays and easily cleanable packaged products but also disposable items. Never double dip into your tubes of mascara or lip color.
How you build a starting makeup kit can vary based on your primary area of focus within makeup. Whether you’re looking to work in bridal, fashion, or movies, this makeup artist kit will fulfill your essential makeup needs. Now, let’s start shopping.

Top Skincare & Prep Products for Your Starting Makeup Kit
As a makeup artist, you will be working on many different skin types. The better prepped the skin, the better your makeup application and longevity of wear.
Remember the mantra: Cleanse, Tone, and Moisturize. These steps will help you to better understand the skin you are about to work on and prepare your canvas.
Our product recommendations for this crucial step include:
Alcone Company’s Make-Off Makeup Remover Cloths
Inglot’s Muti-Action Toner Combination to Oily Skin
Embryolisse’s Lait-Crème Concentre
Bioderma’s Atoderm Lip Stick
Mehron’s Skin Prep Pro
Camera Ready Cosmetics’ Oil Free Makeup Remover
Foundation Must-Haves for Your Makeup Artist Kit
As a makeup artist, you must be prepared to accommodate a wide range of skin tones. Cream palettes are the perfect makeup essentials for your starting makeup kit because they offer a diverse selection of colors, and they work well with most skin types. Not to mention they are compact, so they take up less space than 10 liquid foundation bottles.
While Camera Ready has many high-quality foundation options, we have narrowed our favorite makeup artist kit selection down to the RCMA VK Foundation Palettes. What is great about this product is its versatility. Use the product as concealers, blend them down for foundation, or mix with skin prep to create a sheer/tinted moisturizer. The sky’s the limit with this foundation set!
Powder Makeup Essentials for Your Kit
Set it and forget it! If you have not been living under a rock for the last two years, then you have certainly heard of RCMA No-Color Powder. While, again, we carry many comparable high-quality setting powders, RCMA has been a staple in makeup artist kits for many years.
Along with an all-over setting powder, you will want to have some tinted options for contour and highlight. We recommend a space-saving palette with a range of shades. The Mehron Celebre Pro-HD Pressed Palette Highlight & Contour is a multifunctional makeup essential that includes all the brand’s most popular shades.
No Makeup Artist Kit is Complete Without Blush & Bronzer
Let us not forget the importance of color! In keeping with the theme, we have another great palette that offers some of the best color payout on the market. La Femme has so many shade options you could probably find a use for each, but for your starting makeup kit, we suggest the Exclusive Le Femme Blush Palette. The best part of this is that you can easily switch and swap with the brand’s huge selection of refills.
Not every face needs shimmer and shine, which is why we recommend matte blush or bronzers. However, to keep your makeup artist kit versatile, always have some shimmer on standby. For this, we included Ofra’s Beverly Hills Highlighter. Just add over the top of your matte colors to create glow and radiance.
Eye Makeup Essentials Every Kit Needs
When it comes to eyeshadow, a pro knows less is more. You DO NOT need every shade of shadow in your starting makeup kit. There will be times that a job calls for unique color options, but if you are working with professionals, you will be informed in advance. So, keep your kit streamlined and stick with the makeup essentials.
One of our most adaptable palettes, Ben Nye Glam Shadow Palette includes 12 versatile shades. Enhance eyebrows, highlight brow bones, create the perfect smokey eye, or dip into Inglot Duraline to transform it into a cake liner. One-stop shopping!
For a long-lasting smudge-proof liner in classic black, we’ve included the cult favorite Inglot AMC Eyeliner Gel.
Finish off the eyes with Inglot Volume & Waterproof Mascara. Remember to use your disposable wands! Save space by stocking up on the straight wands and just bend as needed. Add extra “oomph” with some falsies. Ardell Lashes’ Demi-Wispies are another makeup artist kit favorite.
Makeup Artist Kit Lips Essentials
Create the perfect pout with the combination of liners and a great lip palette. Graftobian Super Palette Lip Colors offers 16 long-lasting shades. Mix them together to up your color game. Use your RCMA No-Color Powder for binding, and top it off with shine using Graftobian SuperSeal Intense Shine Lip Gloss.
No Makeup Artist Kit is Complete Without Brushes & Tools
Brushes are a hard one to narrow down, and every artist has their favorites. For the purpose of simplicity, we have chosen the Bdellium Tools Maestro Series Complete 12pc Brush Set. This synthetic brush set has a little something for everything and even includes a roll-up pouch.
Keep in mind, just because a brush is meant to be used for one purpose does not mean it cannot be used for many more. Find what works for you. Plus, the fewer brushes in your makeup artist kit, the less you have to clean after the job is done.
With that being said, do not forget some of the most important tools of all, your brush cleaners. If you are new to Camera Ready Cosmetics, then you may have not yet heard of Crazy Merman Brush Soap. With a few easy steps, it can pretty much clean anything out of your brushes (even that stubborn Inglot 77). We recommend unscented because you never know if a client is sensitive to smell.
When it comes to the brushes that are doing double or even triple duty with no time to dry, make sure you have Cinema Secrets’ Brush Cleaner on hand for quick a switch.
Finally, to round out your starting makeup kit, don’t forget a mixing palette and spatula. This is the greatest way to stay sterile and also mix shades for more variety. Esum was nice enough to create a palette set that also includes a double-ended spatula. Thank you, Esum!
Setting Spray: The Final Touch to Your Makeup Artist Kit
Just like this blog, we are going to finish off the look with a great setting spray. Makeup artists differ between their favorites when it comes to setting sprays. For this kit, we are going to include Skindinavia Bridal Makeup Finish Spray. The award-winning formula perfectly balances skin for controlling excess moisture and leveling out temperatures, so your hard work stays fresh and flawless for up to 16 hours.
The Perfect Case for Your Kit
Now, let’s put it all away. Bigger isn’t better. Remember that we kept this starting makeup kit streamlined. No need to dig for what you need with theLarge Zuca Stylist Case. It’s easy to keep everything in order with customizable cushion foam dividers, which act as a buffer to protect your kit. Cleaning is super easy.
Total Makeup Artist Kit Cost $922.81*
Depending on where you are in your makeup artist career, $1,000 can seem like a lot of money, but just remember you are investing in your future. Now, go forward into your career with your head high because with this starting makeup kit, you shopped like a pro!
